Rick Crecraft grew up in a beautiful suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As a boy, he enjoyed barefoot summers netting turtles, tadpoles, fish, snakes, and frogs from nearby ponds. These adventures, and those at Maine’s Camp Kieve and Put Stowe’s Adirondack Camp, provided inspiration and content for this story. Fishing the Florida Keys and reading Sports Afield, Outdoor Life, and Field and Stream further sparked this book’s writing.
Most fishing books today are oriented toward how, when, where and what to use to catch fish. There’s nothing wrong with that, and it has helped me pay bills for most of my life. Rick Crecraft’s, ‘The Monarch of Tall Pines Pool’ is different. This is a book that certainly has some how-to technique within its pages. But this is much more than that. This is a charming story almost any fisherman will enjoy. It’s well told, full of suspense and is the stuff that a fisherman’s dreams are made of this book doesn’t need an index. You’ll not be searching for the name of a fly pattern or special gear. This is a fun book, and I urge you to find a quiet place, a comfortable chair and then sit back and enjoy Rick’s work.
