About the Author

In her 29 years in the U.S. Air Force, Chief Master Sergeant Jackie-Lynn M. Brown has traveled to over forty countries, served with some of the nation’s highest-ranking dignitaries, and accumulated over four-thousand flying hours as an enlisted aviator. At the beginning of her career she was deployed to the Persian Gulf to serve seven months in Desert Shield and Desert Storm, securing and delivering thousands of tons of subsistence and supplies for military posts throughout the region. During her time in the Air Education and Training Command, she developed and facilitated technical training and Career Development Courses for the Career Enlisted Aviator Center of Excellence and wrote and facilitated enlisted professional military education courses for international and total force senior noncommissioned officers. Chief Brown earned her doctorate degree in organization management, with a specialization in leadership, from Capella University in 2014. Her research centered on the personal growth of service members who had grown increasingly resilient through their experiences with adversity. To close out her thirty years of active-duty service, she was honored with the opportunity of writing the Air Force Handbook 1, Airman, v2019.
