James Mitchum Oates was born Brian Steven Curtis on Oct. 19, 1975 in Chicago, IL. When he was six-years-old, he moved to Kansas City, MO. with his mother, father, and two brothers. He graduated from Van Horn High School in 1994. From there he went to Penn Valley Community College and obtained his Associate’s Degree in General Business Arts in 2004. Then he attended Park University and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice/Corrections in 2007. He is the author of multiple books. He is also single with no children.

Dan lives in the heart of the crime infested urban community in Los Angeles, CA. where gang activity is very rampant. When his brother gets a death threat from a Blood member named Michael, Dan becomes very scared for the safety of him and his family. Dan’s brother, Matt, then introduces Dan to a Crip named T. T assures Dan of he and his family’s safety because of the sworn protection of the Crips. But soon Dan’s family gets killed and he joins the Crips for revenge. Dan then becomes a criminal while being a part of the Crips. One night, while committing a crime, an officer gets killed and Dan is suspect. But then soon Dan learns a shocking revelation that climaxes the entire story. Dan then starts over and finds a new life away from the Crips with God and religion, a nice girlfriend, a new home, and a new school and life is good. Then the story ends with a very heart-wrenching ending that will leave you wondering.
