Sally Netzel is a produced and published playwright, including Mr. Clemens and Mr. Brown and the book and lyrics for the musicals Westward Holmes! and Alice in Wonderland. She is the co-author of a novel, Midsummer, a book of fables for adults titled Rosinante’s Sallies and several plays for children.

A young American composer conducts her new symphony in her new symphony in her New York debut. In the audience are members of her family who witness her current success with varying degrees of joy or jealousy. The occasion and the music stimulate real and distorted memories, some humorous and some horrifying, told movement by movement, intermission to intermission. But these are no more than interruptions in the central narrative of the real story of the composer’s forgotten family, a family of one stubborn, ignorant, cruel, hard-drinking Bohemian immigrant, a young man beginning a new life in the 19th Century, armed with only a shovel and a broken-down fiddle.

“Author and Playwright Sally Netzel Releases a New Novel Laced With Family Drama, History, and Music

Sally Netzel has written over 30 plays, three musicals, and ten children’s plays, the majority of which have been performed in both professional and amateur venues around the country. She is born with a love of music, comedy, and storytelling. Her latest novel, “Bohunk,” explores the lives of interesting individuals with musical skill or a passion for music through centuries.

Sara, a young American composer, conducts a new symphony at her New York debut. Her family members are in the audience, showing varying degrees of joy or envy at her current achievement. The location and music stimulate real and distorted memories, some funny and others frightening, which are presented movement by movement, interval by intermission. But these are sidebars to the actual narrative of the composer’s family, a family of one stubborn, gruff, hard-drinking Bohemian immigrant, a young man beginning on a new life in the nineteenth century with nothing but a spade and a broken-down fiddle.

Netzel is a recipient of the John Gassner Award for Playwriting. She was a resident author, director, performer, and producer of a series of children’s plays at the Dallas Theater Center in Texas for 15 years. She graduated with a master’s degree in theater from Trinity University in San Antonio, where she also taught acting as an associate professor. She is presently based in Denver, Colorado, where she writes.”
