“Lesline Reid was born in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, in the strong farming community of Corby District. As a child Reid gleaned first hand knowledge of honeybees from relatives and neighbors who kept them. Many times, she was rewarded for farm chores with a dripping honeycomb fresh from a beehive.
Reid attended the Mayfield Primary School, and the St Elizabeth Technical High School where she participated in the many aspects of the local 4H Club.
She received her teacher certification from Bethlehem Teachers College where Reid majored in secondary school education and graduated with honors in the areas of English, Biology and Art and Crafts. Reid taught high school in Jamaica and after migrating to the United States she continued teaching in the Bronx, and Brooklyn New York.
Reid currently resides in Lauderhill, Florida with her husband. She is the mother of two sons and grandmother to four. She attends the All Nations New Testament Church of God where she is part of a vibrant family of believers.”
Suzilee had discovered a new world of wonder right there in Nana’s flower garden. All was well in her world. Her head was full of pictures she needed to draw, and stories she needed to tell when she went back to school.
Buzzy the honey bee tells the story of their importance to humanity and the necessity to preserve and protect the food sources of bees. The book seeks to help children understand that they too can take part in this effort for the sake of all mankind.
WITHOUT pollination of crops by bees, food shortages will increase worldwide and hunger and starvation will follow in many places.
“Lesline Reid Introduces the Wonderful World of Honey Bees to Children and Educates Them About the Importance of These Cute, Buzzing Creatures
Bees are one of the most underrated species in the Animal Kingdom. Bees especially honey bees, help the environment and humanity in ways that not everyone knows. Honey bees alone pollinate 80% of all flowering plants, including more than 130 types of fruits and vegetables. Pollination helps plants reproduce, and without pollination, species of plants will go extinct. Bees play an important role in the ecosystem, but their contribution sometimes goes unnoticed—in fact, most bees are labeled critically endangered due to the loss of natural habitat.
However, in a children’s book that beautifully illustrates the great contribution of honey bees, children will learn to love these cute but sometimes feisty, buzzing little creatures. Lesline Reid presents the book “Buzzy the Honey Bee.”
“Buzzy the Honey Bee” follows Suzilee, a young girl, and Nana, her great-grandmother. As Suzilee spends her summer days in the warm panhandle of Florida, Nana introduces her to a beautiful garden where she learns more about the wonderful contribution of honey bees to the environment. Suzilee learned the difference between a honey bee and its rotund cousin, the bumblebee. She also learned the dance of the bees, and most importantly, how honey bees help pollinate flowers and their innate industriousness.
The book is a sweet treat for the minds of little children. It is educational and interactive. Children are introduced to new things such as the honey bees, bumblebees, species of plants, and other insects that help humans and their gardens. The book also comes with color illustrations that help capture and retain the attention of children as they read the book. It comes with an activity section that helps test comprehension, and lets children explore their creativity.
The book is the first book of a protracted series called “The Garden Helpers.” Get your copy.”
