Remarkably, Princess Diana of Wales and I actively worked on a case together. She personally contacted my Shamus Detective Agency in 1993 expressing interest to hire me.
Princess Diana’s childhood friend, Juli needed to find her 11 year old son. He’d been kidnapped from London two years earlier and was possibly in Cincinnati.
This true story details the adventure of Princess Diana, Juli and I! We traveled undetected through Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee. Always following the kidnapper and looking for any sign of the boy.
We encountered dangerous close calls and high speed chases! Our cover was nearly blown when we were spotted on a stakeout and another time when Princess Diana was recognized.
You’ll read about our hilarious and fun times! Including a visit to a Blues Bar in Memphis, and Princess Diana doing her own undercover investigation in Louisville!
However, our main goal never wavered. We had to get the boy! Before it was too late!
“The Adventures of a Private Eye and Princess Diana of Wales
Many people may have experienced the pinnacle of success in their respective fields. However, only a few had an opportunity to protect a real-life princess, more so, Princess Diana of Wales. Richard McDonough, a private investigator based in the Metropolitan area of Cincinnati, Ohio, chronicles his peculiar experience with royalty in his book, “Cincinnati Private Eye Protecting Princess Di.”
McDonough had the surreal experience of becoming Princess Diana’s bodyguard and private investigator. It all started with the abduction of Brandon, the child of Princess Di’s closest friend, Juli. Juli’s ex-boyfriend, Brandon’s father, withheld the child from Juli’s mother for two years, leaving Juli without the boy. Princess Di stepped in and went out of her way to help her friend. With the help of a low-profile yet highly effective private investigator (Richard McDonough) and his trustworthy friend, the four of them set out to reclaim the child from his good-for-nothing father.
McDonough considers his experience with Princess Di as one of the highlights of his career and he recounts it well. The book is written in such a way that readers are immersed in the thrill of their stakeouts. McDonough also infused a tasteful blend of humor, making it thrilling but at the same time comedic and entertaining. He also presented a little-known footnote to history and provided a different facet of the late Princess Diana’s character and attitude.
McDonough runs his own agency, Shamus Private Detective Agency, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He enjoys his job and has no plans to retire anytime soon.
