Author, Clarence Robert Tower, a native son of the valley, began his life during the earliest days of the Nations Great Depression. Fortunately, a sound memory has carried with him well-allowing him to report back on the subject times with a true sense of reliability.  

The valley was a special place back then. Spring time would treat both residents and visitors alike to the overwhelming majesty of blossoming fruit trees- spreading their beauty to all reaches of the valley. World War 11 crept into the Valley’s stability prior to the author’s early school years. The war years covered separately within the text. High school graduation and a degree from San Jose State College followed.  

His degree included a major in engineering, which set the stage for a significant contribution on his part to the development of the valley, this book tells the story.  

Finely, this special place, known in the author’s early years as the “Valley of Heart’s Delight,” assumed, as time passed, a new identity – The “Silicon Valley.” Such stands that way today. 

California’s Santa Clara Valley was a wonderful place to live even before it became known worldwide as “Silicon Valley,” the birthplace of “high technology.” Historian, author, artist Bob Tower’s anecdotes about growing up in Santa Clara provide an engaging, easy-to-read history of the “Valley of Heart’s Delight” –Silicon Valley, the place he’s called home for more than eighty years.
