Merle Potter, being raised in poverty, liked a girl in school and took most of the courses she took, which were college prep courses. His band teacher told him he should go to college so he did. He even earned a PhD degree and was a university professor for his career. He enjoyed writing and wrote about 35 engineering related exam-review books and textbooks and two children’s books. He enjoyed an exciting career.

Rosemary Potter, Merle’s sister-in-law, helped him in the writing of this book; she married my preacher brother. They raised six children so she was a good helper with what interests children.

Two brothers and a friend are netting for fish on a swollen river. They use a raft to go from the shore to the net but on the return trip to the bank, the raft tips over dumping them into ice-cold water at midnight in complete darkness. To escape drowning is the story. It was ever so close.
