Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Dr. Wicker spent her childhood following her father in his ministry to remote areas such as Upper Michigan, Wyoming, and northern Minnesota. Through all those moves, she always considered the South her home, and returned to The University of Mississippi to complete her bachelor, master, and doctorate degrees. She currently teaches art and psychology for Arkansas State University at their beautiful Heber Springs campus. Dr. Wicker and her husband, David, are parents to three children with eight grandchildren and still counting.

When she was born, your mother was already carrying the egg that would become you. You were with her from her beginning as she was from your beginning. Our mothers held us within their very DNA before they held us in their arms. For most of us, losing our mother is one of the most grievous challenges we will face in our lives. It leaves us broken, hurting, and in despair.

I lost my mother on December 6, 2016. She was elderly, she had lived a full life, she was suffering, she was ready to be with the Lord. But I wasn’t ready to let go. I wasn’t sure I would ever make it back to a good place without her. Then I picked up a pen and began writing. I wrote about her, what she had meant to me, and I began to learn things about myself, and about the love of our Heavenly Father.

Through these writings, our merciful Father helped me find a way back to His table. Whatever your loss, the King has a place for you at His table. It has been there since before you were born. I hope these writings help you find your way back.

“Dr. Vicki Wicker Chronicles a Journey Toward Self-Discover in Her Book, “”A Sky Full of Roses””

No matter how old you are, losing your mother alters your life forever. Your mum is the first friend you will ever have. She will always be in your corner to be your number one supporter. You never quite recover from the loss, but you learn to live with it. She is never distant from your mind, and she is always close to your heart, but the longing for her physical presence can sometimes become unbearable.

In her book, “A Sky Full of Roses”, Dr. Vicki Wicker chronicles a journey of loss, despair, hope, self-discovery, and healing.

Vicki lost the most important person in her life back in 2016—her mother. Her mother was sick, but she has lived her life to the fullest, and she was ready to be with the Lord. Although Vicki was aware of this, she was too afraid to let go of her mother. However, death is inevitable, and when it was her mother’s turn to be called home and be with the Lord, sorrow and despair engulfed her because of this loss. But when she started to write about her mother, she discovered a treasure trove of truths about herself and the constant and healing love of the Heavenly Father.

The book is a testament to God’s love and faithfulness and how it extends to us through our parents. Vicki delivers the heavy truth behind the pain of loss with suppleness by contrasting with Scriptures that console aching hearts.

Pain and despair come with the loss of a loved one—but God is a God who heals, and he invites us to sit at his table.
