Madelyn S. Palmer is a Family Physician practicing in Littleton, Colorado. She is married, with four sons and a beagle dog. Her other interests include gardening, sewing, karate, and working with the women and youth in her church.

Fourteen year old Princess Amber lives in the land of Sterling with her parents Queen Elinore and King Robert, and her ten year old brother Prince Matthew. Amber wants nothing more than to be like the other girls of the court, and to have a best friend. But Matthew always shows up at the wrong moments, ruining her plans. For abandoning Matthew at the Youth May Day Festival Amber is sentenced a week of castle cleaning duties with him. Then they have to go work with their cousins on the farm in Danforth, as if they were common peasants.

She decides to take matters into her own hands, and perform a feat of danger and daring that will earn respect and admiration from her peers. But her plans go awry, putting her brother and cousin in danger. She finally learns to accept being different, and to like being the person she is expected to be.
