I, James Tranchina, was born because it was illegal to perform abortions in December 1950. My biological mother was, in the day, referred to as retarded and would undergo 12 surgeries during our pregnancy to repair the brutal, life threatening wounds to her face and eventually losing the left zygomatic arch (cheek bone) for her entire life.
California Child Welfare Services stepped in and determined my biological Mother wasn’t capable of providing for my welfare and placed me in the system. By 4 years old I was given to a couple where the husband was an alcoholic and the state never followed up to see how I was doing. Had they checked they would have found he beat me to the point of hospitalization.
Surviving these and other events compelled me to give my life to my community. Starting with Cub Scouts through Sea Explorer to volunteering to serve during Vietnam as a Pararescue Specialist (The Most Elite Military Organization) with multiple saves. Follow that with 40 years as a Registered Nurse, 20 years spent as a Traveling House Supervisor for hospitals in need.
I worked in Lincoln, Maine, at Penobscot Community Hospital to Martin Luther Jr./King Drew Medical Center in Watts, California. 2016 I would retire but the hard life caught up with me but I put time into writing.
Have you ever given thought of the potential a life growing in the womb has? If that life was terminated, could it have been the next Einstein, Joan of Arc, Mother Theresa, Da Vinci or other world changer? Perhaps the events of my life can be offered as an example of how others can be impacted if that life were adopted instead of terminated by the brutal act of abortion. A collection of stories I call my life would not have been possible if not for a very courageous and unselfish woman who gave me life instead of terminating it. My birth mother endured tremendous hardship to do so following a brutal rape and life threatening assault. Because I was allowed to live I know that I have impacted and perhaps saved lives. If we fail to realize the true value of every life, we fail to understand how the world was deprived and I believe my life proves that.
