The book “Megilat Ester – Ester’s Scroll” offers a unique perspective on Purim – one of the bright and joy filled holidays of Jewish people. In the words of the author, this work is “an attempt at interpretation and belletristic rendition of the biblical “Book of Ester”. Besides providing a literary animation of the biblical text, “Megilat Ester” uses many antique literary sources to explain and illuminate many mystical elements of the plot which in the “Book of Ester” may only be referred to with a slight hint or intimation. As a result, the narrative’s impression on the reader is stronger and deeper, imbued with great sense of context and veracity… in general it is difficult to imagine many pages of Jewish history without the constant accompaniment of miracles that has colored our journeys around the globe. Indeed it is impossible to explain these events with logic. In the time of the “Book of Ester”, according to Talmud the Creator “hid himself” behind a thousand curtains and His presence among His people was by no means obvious any more. Long gone was the era of open miracles, and with all that, it must be noted – events of Purim develop with such iron logic and indisputable cause-and-effect relationships that we are forced to admit that they are directed by the same guiding Hand, and the only plausible explanation to all is the miracle theory. This is already faith, which Jewish is nation cherishes already two thousand and four hundred years – it is faith and history at the same time which the descendant of ancient Judeans display with pride to this day on the day that they celebrate their deliverance and salvation – Purim.
