“Finding Joy in the Midst of Suffering
True joy empowers us to endure suffering so that we can embrace the joy set before us. However, there are times that we lose hope due to an overwhelming situation, and unfortunately, some of us allow their feelings and emotions to dictate their joy. In her turbulent times, Sandra Jolla predicated her joy upon God’s attributes, faithfulness, protection, love, and complete healing. Her book “The Joy: In My Journey with Cancer” is a real-life testimony that we can still find joy through Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
Jolla’s life journey is an inspiration to look beyond the pain and suffering we’re facing, to fully trust the Lord with our futures and believe that there are plans and purposes for the suffering we’re currently enduring. As a cancer patient with a series of chemotherapies, the author experienced nausea, blackened fingernails, hair loss, dry mouth, shortness of breath, doubts, and anxieties. She knew that her condition would be used to glorify God and bless His people.
The word of the Lord says, “Do not be anxious about anything. But in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7. This passage exhibits the immense amount of love God has for us and the confidence that we must have in God.
“The Joy: In My Journey with Cancer” is an encouragement for each one, whether a sick individual or facing a tremulous season, to stay strong in the midst of it. Know that suffering doesn’t always exist, and present suffering cannot compare to the glory revealed in us one day. Sandra Jolla’s life story is a testimony that you do not have to face your anguish alone. The Lord is with you, holding your hand, and at times, carrying you through the pain, you’re facing. This book is a testimony that God delivers and restores.”
