Mark Hanson was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He received his bachelor’s degree in Physics and MBA from the University of Utah. Having been recruited by Watkins-Johnson Company, he and his family moved to Silicon Valley, California, in 1974. There he worked in several management positions, including, for example, managing the development and manufacturing of the Space Shuttle antennas. It was during this time that the extent of Soviet efforts to obtain highly sensitive electronic equipment and components was made public. In 1993 Mark and his family returned to Utah to work in management for a software development company. He helped the company develop its flagship products and also helped guide it through economic turmoil to success. Mark is now retired and lives with his wife in South Jordan, Utah. This is his first novel.

The Silicon War is a fictional story depicting the theft and illegal export of sensitive U.S. electronic equipment and the federal government’s efforts to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

The story begins with the discovery in the U.S. that equipment is being funneled to the Soviet Union and the near-simultaneous discovery in the U.S.S.R. that the U.S. has electronic surveillance capabilities far in excess of past assumptions. Each of these discoveries triggers a series of complex and dangerous events, bringing both sides together in a surprising manner. It includes a frantic chase across the Soviet Union in which CIA agents try to save the lives of two Soviet bureaucrats by getting them out of the Soviet Union into Finland. The story concludes by portraying the ultimate outcome of the events in the lives of the characters.

“Fight for Power and Justice

Power is something that everyone wants. Having it makes one feel superior and in control over another. Most nations are longing to be powerful – to have power over their people and extend it to other nations. Prominent and influential nations try to take over different territories, and in response, the attacked countries find the need to protect their land. Which often leads to war.

Mark Hanson’s book “The Silicon War” depicts a fictional story of what could have happened during the cold war after World War II. It narrated possible events when the United States and the Soviet Union were racing against each other to strengthen their military force. The struggle led to illegal acts. The book shows the effects of these crimes on the lives of innocent families.

The Soviet Union and the United States fought together as allies against the axis powers in World War II. Even then, there was already tension in the relationship between the nations. The Soviet Union and the United States started to fight for control over space for their military purposes. Leading to what was called “space race.” In the middle of the race, the Russians realized that they were already losing as they lack in technology, and the only way to get ahead was to do the thing that they did best – steal.

This book will take you back in time. It will give us the heart to look back and be part of a history that impacted the whole world. The thrilling chase for criminals adds excitement to the story as the US government tries to track down the culprits stealing their electronic equipment while at the same time protecting innocent people. All the events that happened in the story affected the lives of every character.”
